Self-awareness is necessary for personal growth. The first step to self-awareness is honesty. “Is there something about me that needs to change?” “Could I improve in any way?” “What do I need to do to be better?” These are a few questions we can consider as we introspectively examine our conduct, reactions or responses and outcomes. Because we are constantly interacting with others, we can draw some of our conclusions about personal growth from those interactions. Are we clear in our communication? Is there constant conflict, or is there usually harmony? Are we being a positive influence, or are we contributing to chaos? One thing for sure is that none of us is perfect. We can all benefit from being self-aware and seeking ways to improve.
Who is in your “circle?” There should be people around you who are willing to be honest with you about you; not being harsh or offensive, but truthful. It could be a close friend or relative, a mentor, or maybe a therapist. Sometimes, having another opinion or professional observation can be helpful in determining what you need to do to be the best you.
When we do the work necessary to become better human beings, we ultimately make the world around us better. Self-improvement will help boost your confidence. It can help you reach your goals. It can strengthen relationships. It can also prepare you for new and great opportunities. Seeking improvement is an asset rather than a flaw. It is a strength and a sign of humility. It all starts with self-awareness.
